A hijacked lorry has smashed into the front window of a store in the centre of Stockholm, killing at least three and injuring several others according to Swedish police.

The crash happened at the Ahlens department store just before 15:00 local time (13:00 GMT), on Drottninggatan (Queen Street), one of Stockholm’s most popular pedestrian areas.

Above are the scenes in the city currently, where dozens of emergency services vehicles are tending to injured people

Stefan Lofven, the Prime Minister of Sweden, claimed that the incident appears to be an act of terrorism.

One person has so been arrested, but police have said no-one is being held.

The back of the truck, sticking out of the shopping centre, is seen here moments after ramming several people as they shopped

Armed terrorists were then seen running into Stockholm’s Central railway station and opening fire. Two people were also said to have been stabbed.

Police have shut the station down, which is the main hub for communal transport in the city.

Swedish brewery Spendrups said its lorry had been stolen yesterday on its way to a restaurant delivery.

“Someone jumped into the driver’s cabin and drove off with the vehicle while the driver was unloading,” a brewery spokesperson said.

One eyewitness said, “blood was everywhere.”

People were seen running for their lives after a truck crashed into Ahlens, a department store in Klarabergsgatan, at around 3pm local time

The attack comes after trucks were used in terror attacks in Nice and Berlin last year and just two weeks after Muslim convert Khalid Masood ploughed his car into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge in London.

The shop sits close to the city’s central station, which was evacuated.

The metro was also suspended after the attack.
